Join us for an exploration of the native and non-native plants at Lane Gate Preserve on August 7! Participate in an educational scavenger hunt to find various native and introduced plants, and learn more about their impacts on the local environment. Take the time to explore the various ecosystems Lane Gate Preserve has to offer, from wetland to meadow; there’s so much to explore! Once the scavenger hunt is complete, we will regroup for a short guided hike to Cat Pond. Registration required!

Join HHLT staff and our partners at Wild Woods Restoration Project for a guided plant ID walk at Lane Gate Preserve in Cold Spring, NY, on Sunday, July 19. The walk will be led by Linda Rohleder, founder of the Wild Woods Restoration Project. As we wander through the preserve’s trails, we’ll take a closer look at the plants around us, learning the key characteristics and terminology used to identify species common to our local forests. Registration is required!
Join HHLT staff and community volunteers every Thursday, June through August as we gather at one of our preserves for hands-on stewardship work: removing invasive species, maintaining trails, and keeping our preserves clean. This series is open to everyone. No experience necessary. Just show up, sign a waiver, and get outside. Where are we this week? Preserve locations rotate weekly. Join us in our ongoing partnership with the nonprofit Wild Woods Restoration Project for June and July Potting Days in Putnam County. Workdays involve sitting (or standing) and potting young seedling plants into small containers. Registration is required.
HHLT was proud to partner with Woods End LLC and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation to conserve 93 acres of ecologically rich land — which are now permanently protected as part of Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park. This project represents the culmination of a multi-year effort to safeguard a critical wildlife corridor adjacent to Fahnestock.
