Join us for one or both of these upcoming volunteer opportunities as we work to install a deer exclosure fence along the Red-Yellow trail at Granite Mountain Preserve in Putnam Valley.
On Monday, August 17, volunteers will help prep materials ahead of the build, getting everything ready for installation day. Then on Thursday, August 20, we’ll put those materials to use and construct the fence on site.
Working alongside HHLT staff, summer interns, and volunteers, you’ll help support biodiversity and ecosystem health at the preserve. This effort is a vital step in restoring a section of forest that has been selected for our fall native planting site.
What to Expect: Our focus area requires a short but steep climb approximately 1/4 mile into the Red-Yellow trail. Please consider this a moderate difficulty level due to the steep terrain, so come prepared with sturdy hiking shoes. We will provide work gloves and fieldwork tools. Light snacks and water will be provided. Please bring your own water bottle to stay properly hydrated throughout the morning, especially given the steep terrain. Please note that there are no restrooms at the preserve.
