Everyone should feel welcome in the outdoors, and everyone should have safe, nearby access to nature, no matter what community they call home.

At HHLT, our mission is squarely centered on the permanent protection of natural resources of our region, for the benefit of all people. However, land conservation efforts nationwide have not historically been focused on the inclusion or interests of diverse constituents in their practices.

In 2023-2024, we drafted new mission and vision statements, together with a new five-year strategic plan. In creating and following these guiding documents, our board and staff are striving to integrate an equity lens into all of our work. We know it is incumbent upon us to rethink and improve the ways we serve and engage with local communities and visitors to the Hudson Highlands.

This cannot be one facet of what we do; our goal is for diversity, equity and inclusion principles to be incorporated into every aspect of our work.

We invite you to join us in taking an active role in making the outdoors safe and welcoming for people of all races, origins, and identities. If you’d like to learn more about our work, if you have a suggestion or want to collaborate, contact us here. Let’s have a conversation!

A Delicate Balance

Less than 50 miles north of New York City, the Hudson Highlands region is rich in scenic beauty, wildlife habitat, and recreation opportunities. HHLT works to protect biodiversity and natural resources, address climate change, and create opportunities for people to experience the benefits of being in nature.
