September 22, October 1, and October 11, 2026
9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Join the Hudson Highlands Land Trust (HHLT) and the Wild Woods Restoration Project (WWRP) at Granite Mountain Preserve in Putnam Valley this fall for the next phase of an ongoing restoration effort. This summer, HHLT staff and volunteers collaborated to build a deer exclosure to protect a section of regenerating woodland along the Red-Yellow Trail. Now, we are excited to invite volunteers back for a hands-on stewardship opportunity: planting native shrubs, sedges, and grasses within the enclosure and at the preserve’s trailhead!
Participants will get their hands dirty planting native species chosen to boost biodiversity and support local wildlife, all while helping the forest build resilience. Most of the plants going into the ground were grown through spring and summer, thanks to Potting Day efforts organized by HHLT, WWRP and other conservation organizations throughout the region.
Please note that the planting area on Sep. 22 and Oct. 11 is about 1/4 mile up the hill from the parking area on a sloped, rocky hillside. We will be planting small plants using lightweight tools. Click the dates below to register:
